Masturbation – Tips for the Newbie

Those searching online for guidance on ‘sexual pleasure’ will be swamped with articles on how to please your partner.  This goes to show sexual pleasure is mostly thought of as a feeling flowing outward towards another person.  Before you can communicate what would satisfy you to your lover, it is important you know how to satisfy yourself.  Touching yourself is a way of getting in touch with what type of stimulation turns you on.  At its very core, great sex is comprised of communication and knowledge of self-love and self-pleasure, which is derived from masturbation.

Society has long shamed the act of masturbation even more than sex.  As a result, there are many people who feel a sense of embarrassment about masturbation, even though it’s a beautiful and important thing to make time for.  Here are some tips for getting the most out of your alone time:

Find a space.  Masturbation requires uninterrupted concentration; find a private space in which you can be as comfortable and as loud as you want.  If you live with other people, timing is key and having a door which locks might come in handy.

Relax.  Get into the mode of “me.”  This requires letting go of all the worries of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.  Do whatever you need to quiet down the buzz inside of your head.  You can light candles, listen to music, or have the hum of your favorite xxx feature playing in the background.

Oh yeah… watch porn.  Porn can be the catalyst you need to get your libido in desire mode.  Have your favorite genres, scenes or performers close by, then hit the play button… and I’m not just talking about the remote!

Or use your imagination.  While men often rely on more visual stimulation, women have been using their imagination since long before Eve bit into the proverbial apple!  Take a moment and really think about what turns you on.  Perhaps it’s a woman or man you met the other day, a coworker you’ve been vying for, a celebrity, a made-up person, or two, or three.  Pretend you’re the director of your own adult flick.

Find what feels good.  You have nerve fibers all over your body.  Use your hands to graze lightly against your skin everywhere because likely it’ll feel good and some spots will call out for more touch.  For most people, nerve fibers are concentrated in the lips, tongue, nipples vulva, pussy, clit, cock head, anus… well, you get the idea.  Recognize which spots are the most sensitive to you.  Use your fingers to find spots that tickle, but instead of laughing, you’re tightening and going “Mmmm…” During your exploration remember your feel-good spots and remember precisely how you touch them.  You will want to revisit often. 🙂

Use adult toys.  Consider purchasing a vibrator or dildo for a pleasurable experience your hands can’t offer.  You can insert a vibrator or dildo inside you and figure out which strokes and moves you enjoy.  Women can also leave their vibrator on their vulva or directly on their clit, figuring how much pressure to apply for earth shattering orgasms.  Men will also find a lot of pleasure from a bullet vibe placed against their balls or cock.  If you’re on a budget, you can use certain household items as well, detachable shower heads for example.  Use a certain amount of discernment when choosing what objects to pleasure yourself with. Always make sure that the base is wider than the top; when you have something to hold on to, it makes for successful removal. 😉 The objects should also be hygienic and safe.  For example, wash any pesticides off that beautiful cucumber before you insert it…

Keep practicing and have fun!

Emotional Rescue: Tackling Sexual Anxiety in Women & Men

Regardless of how it may manifest physically, sexual anxiety ultimately comes from the same place in men and women – a zone of insecurity. The purpose of this brief article is to demonstrate a link between physical vulnerability and emotional vulnerability. For example, it can be easy for some people who lack security in their bodies to project that insecurity into their relationships. For others, an inability to articulate specific wants, needs and desires can foster resentment and anger. Within the context of a sexually intimate couple, these modes of behavior can create emotional “minefields” where even the most minor issues can become stigmatized with a detrimental “charge.”

But before you can conquer anxiety in your physical relationships with others, you have to conquer the anxiety in your relationship with yourself. True intimate relationships begin with yourself because, ultimately, all “outer” relationships are reflections of you and colored by you. That’s not to say that your partner may not ever do something you find undesirable, but even when they do, you are the one who creates the charge, because you are the one who chose to be offended, or “triggered.”

If this scenario sounds even faintly familiar, it may be time to make peace with yourself, because that’s who you are in a relationship with first and foremost. And if you’re feeling insecure, it’s time to start feeling comfortable in your own skin. Overcoming this internal battle within is challenging – we are all a little self-conscious at one time or another, and there aren’t many things in life that make human beings feel more vulnerable than removing our clothes in front of others. With powerful emotions on the line, how does one find reserves of peace within?

Ancient philosophers like Plato and Xenophon responded to this existential quandary by quoting the pithy saying often attributed to Socrates – “Know thyself.” But what does this mean in contemporary, real world terms, how do you put it to work in the bedroom?

Within the context of this article, knowing one’s self can begin on the outside. Spend more of your home time nude! Walk around naked, get used to studying yourself in the mirror, recognizing yourself like a long-lost friend. Most importantly, give that person in the mirror the same compassion and acceptance you give to everyone else who’s important to you.

Once you’ve found greater comfort and affinity with the outer “you,” it’s time to take the journey within. Self-pleasure is essential in constructing your sexual cosmology; use masturbation to learn the width and breadth of your mental, emotional and physical tastes. In short, learn what makes you feel good.  The more you learn about what works for you, the more you’ll bring to the table to the one seeking to please you. Know your carnal self.

In sex, as in many other areas of relationships, the most dispiriting issues tend to arise when we don’t dig enough to learn what we really want, whether it’s from ourselves, a lover, or a potential life partner.

Some forms of insecurity can, and should, be best resolved by seeking the advice of health care professionals. But it can be helpful to remember that by converting your mirrored “subject self” into an authentic “object self,” you can view everything concerned with yourself with detachment. Ultimately, this should leave you peaceful and unaffected by outer events and the behaviors of others. And once you’re free of emotional anxiety, don’t be surprised to find that you’ve been freed of the sexual anxiety that was being triggered by it.

jessica drake Reflects on Whirlwind Start to 2014

Adult Entertainment’s Busiest Star Expertly Juggles Reality Show, Sex Education Films, College Appearances, Feature Films, Media Profiles, & More!

LOS ANGELES (April 21, 2014) – Acclaimed sexual wellness authority, sex educator, and Wicked Pictures contract performer / director jessica drake has had a whirlwind start to 2014, with many more exciting projects on the horizon. In addition to performing, drake still finds times to educate couples on sex, speak to media, appear at colleges, direct, and more, all while preparing for the release of her upcoming reality show, Love, Jessica.

“What a year 2014 has been, and it’s only April!” says drake. “All my work over the past several years as a performer, director, and educator are culminating at the same time in so many different facets. I welcome the opportunity to bring more attention to topics like the adult entertainment industry and the need for sex education reform.”

drake hit the ground running in 2014, when a CNN.com feature on her was selected as the “most popular photo blog of 2013” immediately after the New Year. In the photo blog, drake discussed LA County’s controversial Measure B (also known as the County of Los Angeles Safer Sex In the Adult Film Industry Act), the adult industry, and her performance, educational, and volunteer work; the feature also took a peek into her private life.

Her acclaimed educational series, jessica drake’s Guide to Wicked Sex, continued to garner industry praise, as jessica drake’s Guide to Wicked Sex: Anal Play for Men was named Best Educational Release at this year’s 2014 AVN Awards. Returning to Los Angeles, drake then announced she would be collaborating with award-winning BBW performer and size acceptance advocate Kelly Shibari on the first-ever educational DVD on plus size sexuality, jessica drake’s Guide to Wicked Sex: Plus Size Sex. Mainstream and adult media outlets alike, including Cosmopolitan, were invited onto the set of the groundbreaking project; the film will be released later this year. drake is also currently in post-production on two additional educational films for 2014: jessica drake’s Guide to Wicked Sex: The Art of Striptease and jessica drake’s Guide to Wicked Sex: Legends.

Ever the educator, drake was invited to present several “modern sex” seminars around the country. In addition to workshops at Cirillas stores in Ohio, drake spoke with students at University of Chicago’s Sex Week, where she shared her experience in the adult industry and how it helped her see the need and demand for modern sex education. Her second presentation at U-Chicago was titled, “The Piracy of Sex,” which she presented with anti-piracy expert Nate Glass. The seminar was profiled by multiple media sites, including tech site BetaBeat, and the duo was invited to speak to students at USC’s Film School on April 30. drake also attended UCLA for a panel titled, “Porn, Prostitution, and Censorship: The Politics of Empowerment,” where she discussed the power dynamics of prostitution, the accommodation of sex, and the objectification and censorship of the female body.

In addition to speaking with students, drake participated on several panels within the sex educator and adult entertainment community. She spoke alongside Dr. Carol Queen on the panel “Real vs Reel Sex” at CatalystCon East, where she discussed the differences in perception between sex as fantasy entertainment versus sex for educational benefits. In Toronto, drake was a featured speaker at The Feminist Porn Conference, as part of the panel, “Evaluating the Outcome: How Do We Know When Porn was Produced with Ethical Feminist Principles?” Sharing her experience in the adult industry both as a performer and a producer/director with ‘mainstream’ heterosexual company Wicked Pictures, drake discussed how the concept of ethics and feminist tropes play within her work, and challenged the notions of ‘mainstream’ adult entertainment companies and their place within the feminist porn tableau.

Mainstream media sought jessica drake’s expertise on a variety of topics; she let readers into sex and relationship secrets for men’s pop culture and trendsetter site CraveOnline. She also offered her insight into personal privacy, in the wake of Duke University student Belle Knox’s public backlash, for the Huffington Post.

A three-time winner of AVN’s coveted Best Actress award, drake essayed the role of the Evil Queen earlier this year in Axel Braun’s Snow White XXX: A Hardcore Parody, opposite Riley Steele. The debut release in the new Wicked Fairy Tales line, this two-disc DVD release goes on sale nationwide April 23, 2014.

Ms. drake is currently in the midst of shooting her second big budget project of the year, the New York-based relationship drama Aftermath. Directed by her longtime collaborator and acclaimed filmmaker Brad Armstrong, the intimate character study casts drake opposite rising star Tyler Nixon in a compelling May-December romance rife with hidden secrets. drake’s latest collaboration with real-life partner Armstrong caught the eye of Cosmopolitan yet again, resulting in an in-depth interview on costume and wardrobe design for adult films.

Capturing the behind-the-scenes portions of drake’s busy schedule are the cameras of Love, Jessica, a new reality show documenting jessica’s life. The docu-series will premiere on Canada’s The Movie Network, Sunday, May 11 and Movie Central in Fall 2014, while after a successful debut at MIPTV, deals are in the works to bring the show to all major markets around the world. Season One is comprised of 10 30-minute episodes.

jessica drake to Speak at CatalystCon East, Saturday, March 15

‘Guide to Wicked Sex’ Creator & Sex Educator Discusses ‘Real Sex Versus Reel Sex’ Alongside Cultural Sexologist Dr. Carol Queen!

MARCH 5, 2014 – Arlington, VA — Sexual wellness authority, sex educator and Wicked Pictures contract performer / director jessica drake is a featured speaker at CatalystCon East, held March 14 – 16 in Arlington, VA. drake will speak alongside Dr. Carol Queen on Saturday, March 15, on the panel, “Real vs Reel Sex.” The popular guest speaker will share her experience in the adult industry and how it helped her see the need and demand for modernized sex education.

“In the absence of clear and pleasure-focused sex education… is sex as portrayed in adult movies really as fake as it’s often described?” asks the CatalystCon site in its description of the panel discussion. “‘Real’ people just don’t do those freaky things – or do they? A screen sex professional and a sexologist with more than a passing interest in porn discuss sex in the movies: the difference between on- and off-camera sex in porn and mainstream cinema, the growing ‘porn made for women’ genre, the rise of the anti-porn explicit movie, and much more.”

Held at Hilton Crystal City at Reagan Airport, drake and Queen’s conversation will take place in the Madison Room from 10:30am – 11:40am. For more information on CatalystCon East, visit http://catalystcon.com. Additional information can be found on the conference’s Twitter and Facebook pages.

“I’m honored to be invited to speak with the amazing Dr. Carol Queen about the adult industry and it’s relationship with the general public, specifically in the realm of Sex Ed.,” says drake.

“I’ve had the privilege of both directing and starring in adult feature movies, plus producing and directing my line of instructional movies, jessica drake’s Guide to Wicked Sex,” adds drake. “Those experiences, along with the workshops and college campus chats I’ve been invited to, have provided me first-hand access to the differences in perception between sex as fantasy entertainment versus sex for educational benefits. I am really looking forward to a great panel both with Dr. Queen and with the input of Catalyst attendees.”

drake will also be interviewed while at CatalystCon on the WhoreCast podcast, hosted by multifaceted sex worker Siouxsie Q. “The WhoreCast is all about showcasing stories, art, and voices of American sex workers, so we are just ecstatic to have jessica drake in our studio at CatalystCon,” says Siouxsie Q. “It’s a unique opportunity for me to do an interview in front of a live audience, which always adds an element of magic. It’s so important to have mainstream stars like jessica as part of the WhoreCast mission, as we fight for Truth, Justice, and the American Whore. I can’t wait to have her on the show!”

jessica drake Garners XRCO Nomination for Mainstream Adult Media Favorite

Sex Educator’s Efforts Receive Critical Recognition for Public Outreach & Mainstream Media Appeal!

FEBRUARY 28, 2014 – LOS ANGELES, CAjessica drake’s Guide to Wicked Sex director, producer, and host jessica drake receives industry praise with a nomination for Mainstream Adult Media Favorite for the 2014 XRCO Awards. drake’s work as a sex educator and industry spokesperson have placed her prominently in the public eye, garnering prodigious media attention.

“I’m honored to receive an XRCO Award nomination – it’s a joint effort, and I’m grateful for everyone who supports me and all the members of Team Wicked,” says jessica. “The Guide To Wicked Sex line has allowed me to reach out to the public in the most amazing way. From speaking with singles and couples about sexuality, to chatting with students at universities about consent, politics, pornography, relationships, and sex, being able to share my passion for sex education has been extremely rewarding.”

jessica continues, “The additional outreach to the mainstream public through events, such as participating in, raising funds, and building awareness through AIDS Walk LA, has allowed me to push boundaries beyond the scope of the stereotypes surrounding our industry. I’m thrilled to have these opportunities to bridge the space between the adult industry and the public, and I thank the XRCO for recognizing the mainstream media’s acceptance of those efforts.”

A CNN.com photo essay on jessica drake was declared “most popular photo blog of 2013” by the prominent news outlet. In the photo blog, drake discusses LA County’s controversial Measure B (also known as the County of Los Angeles Safer Sex In the Adult Film Industry Act), the adult industry, and her performance, educational, and volunteer work; the feature also takes a peek into her private life.

The past year brought jessica drake to the forefront of mainstream media, with appearances at college campuses: University of Chicago’s Sex Week invited her to speak on a panel on modern sex education and porn piracy; Chapman University asked her to appear as a guest lecturer for its Human Sexuality class. She has also spoken with Film and Media Studies students at the University of California – Santa Barbara, and participated in a panel on pornography at UCLA. In addition, she has spoken at numerous stores across the country on topics covered in Guide To Wicked Sex.

Chapman University Assistant Professor David Frederick, Ph.D., described drake as “an exceptional speaker… I would highly recommend her as a speaker for any class related to media issues, gender, or sexuality.” “jessica drake is a wickedly compelling and articulate sex educator, who is also smart, funny, and compassionate,” added Dr. Constance Penley; Professor of Film and Media Studies and Co-Director of the Carsey-Wolf Center, UC Santa Barbara. Fellow professor Dr. MIreille Miller-Young echoed Dr. Penley’s sentiment, saying, “jessica drake is a powerful voice for sexual education and empowerment! Using adult entertainment as a tool for social change… jessica has a vital voice, and she isn’t afraid to use it to help us all embrace our sexualities and fight social stigma and oppression.”

In 2013, drake also led fellow adult stars, industry members, and fans under the TEAM WICKED banner, to complete a 10 kilometer fundraising walk through West Hollywood, CA at the 29th Annual AIDS Walk Los Angeles. The team raised over $20,000 for LA County AIDS Organizations. She was also instrumental in the creation of a Porn 101 video for the Adult Performer Advocacy Committee, an introductory film for performers entering the industry covering topics such as health, safety, employment, and more.

“This really has been an exceptional year in terms of the adult industry’s presence in mainstream media, and its interaction with the public,” adds jessica. “The way our industry has been portrayed in the public eye has started to change, though we still have a long way to go. I feel the increased inquiry into pornography, sex education, and open communication between the adult industry and the public has started to breed an environment of understanding, if not acceptance, and I hope that my participation in those conversations has netted a positive response in that regard.”

Through her series of workshops and seminars and her line of instructional DVDs, jessica drake teaches people to explore their sexuality in a fun, safe, and responsible way. She teaches how to set boundaries, emphasize consent, and still have wonderful sex while communicating effectively with partners.

The Huffington Post says of her Guide to Wicked Sex series, “Watching her DVDs [is] fun, informative, and sexy all at once…Covering fellatio, anal sex, female masturbation, anal play for men and threesomes, drake uses real couples and porn stars to simulate scenes, as well as hard core sex scenes at the finale, to illustrate the point.”

The X Rated Critics Organization honors the best in the adult entertainment industry; its awards show is the second oldest in the business. The 30th Annual XRCO Awards Show will be held April 16 at OHM (formerly Highlands Hollywood), in Hollywood, California. Admission to the XRCO Awards is free; however, attendance is restricted to adult industry personnel and press only. Attendees must RSVP to be put on the list here.

Wicked Pictures is an official sponsor of the 2014 XRCO Awards.
