The adult superstar turned sexual health advocate was honored in part due to her tireless support for sex education reform and advocacy efforts.

The honor is jessica drake’s third XRCO Award and 27th award overall from a major adult industry organization, including the 2015 XBIZ Award for Best Actress Parody Release, three AVN Awards for Best Actress, and two AVN Awards for Best Educational Release. “I have known and loved the many members of XRCO since I first entered the industry, so this is really special,” drake said. “Thank you to everyone involved with XRCO for presenting me with the Mainstream Adult Media Favorite award, and thank you so much to Wicked, my FAM team, and Steve Orenstein for all the support throughout my career, especially with my progress as a sex educator.”

The acclaimed adult superstar has been an outspoken voice in the media in support of sexual wellness and healthy attitudes toward sex in recent years. Starting with her best-selling sex education series, “jessica drake’s Guide to Wicked Sex,” which provides explicit demonstrations and frank discussion of sex techniques, fetish sex, intimacy issues, and other topics, drake has grown her stature as a sex educator through mainstream articles and personal appearances.

Most recently drake has expanded her interests by offering relationship and sexual advice in a column she has begun writing for Stylecaster.com.  Her newest articles on what porn doesn’t teach about anal sex and exploring and embracing fetishes are available here and here.

In the past year, jessica drake and her message of sexual wellness and sex education have been featured in a variety articles in media outlets such as Uproxx, AskMen, CNBC, Vice, Buzz Feed, Bustle, Maxim, Refinery 29, Prime Mind, GQ, and many others.

What Porn Doesn’t Teach You About Anal Sex

jessica-drake-jumbo-4

The following is an article I wrote for StyleCaster.com on “What Porn Doesn’t Teach You About Anal Sex”:

“Lately, during the Q&A portion of my “Guide to Wicked Sex” workshops, many of the questions I’ve been getting are about anal. And it’s no wonder, when you consider the amount of couples I speak to who are worried there’s something wrong with them (their words!) because they couldn’t figure out how to have anal sex the way they saw me having it in movies. That was a big “a ha” moment, as it dawned on me that some people just aren’t able to differentiate porn for fantasy versus how it might translate in their own bedroom.

In porn, anal sex looks easy. With hardly any foreplay, the pool boy is suddenly pounding away at the back door, and everyone’s having orgasms everywhere. Ah, the joys of editing! Understand this: We’re trained professionals. You can still try this at home, but there are some things you should know beforehand.”

People Are Finally Talking About Consent in an Open, Sexy Way and That’s A Win for Everyone

gtws3

The following article by Mark Shrayber was published yesterday on Uproxx.com and contains an interview with me. It’s titled “People Are Finally Talking About Consent in an Open, Sexy Way and That’s A Win for Everyone”:

“Consent is critical to any sexual relationship, whether it be a long-term marriage or a Thursday night session of ‘Netflix & Chill.’ The problem, however, is that until now, consent has been made to seem like a dry and boring topic — something necessary, but also a possible mood killer. How sexy is it really to stop in the middle of sexual congress to say “are you willingly engaging in the act of coitus with me?’

But f*ck that noise because here’s what’s up: Consent. Is. Important.

First things first, though: Considering that consent has always been important, why are we talking about it so much and so openly now?”

SFSI

jessicastockroom

I began my journey into sex ed almost five years ago, and one woman is responsible for the initial change in my career trajectory.

She isn’t famous, wasn’t a mentor, I had never aspired to be her, and even now, I’m hard pressed to remember her name.

Yet there she was. Standing nervously to the side of a fairly long line of men in an adult store clamoring to get my autograph, buy DVDs, and take a picture with me, she patiently waited. By the time the crowd had dissipated, she had worked up the nerve to move forward. As I was getting ready to pack up and leave, she approached me. She leaned over my table, and in a hushed voice confided in me:

“I’m not sure if I’m having orgasms.” She stared at the floor.

As we spoke, she gradually filled in the blanks. She was in her forties and married to a man who, for 15 years, has been thinking that whatever he’s been doing in bed has been getting her off. He wasn’t rubbing her clit. He didn’t like the idea of using sex toys. He is the reason I currently begin any couple’s event with “5 Fun Facts About the Clit” and quiz people at the end. (The top fact being that over 70 percent of women need clitoral stimulation to reach climax)

Now, when I tell this story I realize what she did and the courage that it took. Her desire to experience pleasure finally became bigger than her fear, and she reached out to someone that she thought could help- someone who had been doing hardcore movies for over 10 years, someone who seemed to be the expert in both giving and receiving pleasure- someone who, as an acclaimed, “award winning” pornstar, surely had all the answers.

As a woman, I knew I HAD to help her. Everyone has the right to be able to know and love their body and experience the pleasures it’s capable of. I felt compelled…I made it my mission. When she did have orgasms- a few months later- it was one of the most rewarding feelings of my life.

People kept asking me sex questions, and I grew to realize that due to a lack of resources, people were getting their sex education from porn. Parents hope the schools are shouldering the responsibility, yet in 2014, 76% of high schools in the United States taught abstinence as the most effective way to avoid pregnancy. (cdc.gov)

Pornhub released a study in 2015 that revealed people watched 4.4 BILLION hours of porn that year. (Pornhub, askmen.com) and with every future advance in technology, that number will grow.

That’s a lot of people thinking that women spontaneously orgasm, anal sex is always easy, facial cumshots are the norm, and the pizza guy always gets laid.

Don’t get me wrong- I LOVE porn. As a viewer AND as a participant. It’s given me some incredible opportunities. I’ve lived out some of my deepest fantasies in a safe, controlled environment. I make great money. I have an amazing fan base. Porn is also a great tool, when used properly. It’s fantastic masturbatory material. It can be great to spice up a relationship, to explore fetishes, even to normalize thoughts of sex acts or fantasies that seem unusual to us.

But who helps us navigate porn? There are no Cliff notes. We need realistic, shame free, pleasure based, kink friendly, no-judging sex information. That’s not too much to ask for. Am I right?

That’s where I come in. I take the platform that I have built over the years as a sexual inspiration, this fan base, and I harness it. I use my powers (mostly) for good. I fight the good fight. I mix it up. I toe the line between two worlds and hope for the best in both.

Training as an educator is very important. Since I don’t have letters behind my name, it’s important for me to refine my skills constantly. Experience alone isn’t enough- if it was, I’d have my Masters. Twice. It isn’t just sex tips any more. As I further develop my line of educational movies, I grow as well and learn the need for inclusivity, to stretch beyond the initial hetero-based, primarily vanilla needs. I challenge myself so I can challenge others.

Currently I’m in SFSI (San Fransisco Sex Information) training. Started in the 70s as a switchboard, they trained would-be volunteers, and as word got around, they began training aspiring educators as well as practicing educators.

I came into this program on a quest to gain knowledge on gender identity and expression, to be more of an inclusive educator, expecting that in addition to some remedial information on anatomy and sexual functions/dysfunctions. I looked at it as an opportunity to involve myself in the learning process once again, my brain was hungry for new information, or as I affectionately refer to it- brainsex.

That was the tip of the iceberg. Just the tip, if you will.

What I found was an entire team of amazingly talented and passionate people who model what educators can and should be. I found a room full of people from all areas of life, likeminded folks who want to offer a more realistic, modern style of sex education. I’ve been challenged since day one. I’ve taken notebooks full of notes, seen creatively designed slides, done enlightening exercises, heard panels that gave me chills and moved me to tears.

Not only has SFSI proven to be educational, it is effectively making me a better educator. I can’t say enough about the program, I can only say how incredibly grateful I am for the opportunity, and how much I’m looking forward to working with them in some capacity in the future.

jessica drake Receives Catalyst Award for ‘Inspiring Exceptional Conversations in Sexuality’

IMG_2564

Prestigious Acknowledgement Recognizes Years of Successful Contributions at CatalystCon, Including drake’s Highly Attended Panels & Sex Worker Meet Ups!

CHICAGO (April 11, 2016) – Adult performer and Wicked Pictures contract star jessica drake was awarded the prestigious Catalyst Award at this year’s CatalystCon Midwest 2016 for the impactful work she has done as a sex educator. The bi-annual conference, now in its fifth year, gives the award each year to the speaker who “Inspires Exceptional Conversations in Sexuality.” Since CatalystCon’s inception, drake has been a keynote speaker and a panelist on multiple occasions.

“Each conference I give this award to someone who has been a catalyst for change, and jessica drake is that person,” said Dee Dennis, co-founder of CatalystCon. “Her ongoing dedication to changing the conversations we have about sex work, sex education, and sexuality overall has made her a catalyst in our field.”

“CatalystCon in Chicago was quite a success!” said jessica drake. “Receiving the Catalyst Award is not only a huge accomplishment for me, it is also an honor I share with so many other deserving, inspiring people in our corner of the world. As Dee gave her speech right before she announced the winner, I was looking around the room and imagining who it could be… when I heard my name, I was thrilled… floored… and so grateful.”

At CatalystCon Midwest, drake participated in a discussion on “Slut-Shaming: Taking on Intolerance About Our Open, Unashamed Sexualities.” The panel included Sexologist Carol Queen, writer and podcaster Katie Mack, and burlesque artist Zyra Lee Vanity. The much needed discussion on slut shaming brought to light the harmful, judgmental finger-pointing used against women.

“The Slut Shaming panel was once again a huge success, and with a packed room, we spoke not only on our personal experiences both in and out of the sex positive community, but also how we can further help educate others and affect change for the future,” explained drake.

“I also hosted the Sex Worker meet up, and started to facilitate some big changes in this really important space at the conference. Everyone in attendance had some incredible input, and I’m looking forward to what CatalystCon West will bring,” added drake.

The event, which was open to all sex workers past and present, helped continue to foster a support network and community among those in the industry.

“Sometimes change is quick; other times we have to push and work for it, and it seems like such a process until one day you realize you made a difference… but always know- you DO make a difference!” said drake. “Thank you so very much to CatalystCon, to Dee, Wicked Pictures, and everyone who supports my efforts and ambition to make a difference.”

Embracing Fetish In Bed

jessica-drake-jumbo-4

The following is an article I wrote for StyleCaster two weeks ago on “Embracing Fetish in Bed”:

Even though we’re living in a time where sex is so openly portrayed in mainstream media (thanks, EL James!), we’re still missing out on something that could quite literally be at our fingertips… Time and time again, I get asked about fetishes.

“I love the arch of women’s feet!”

“I have dreams about taking two guys at once.”

“I can only orgasm with a partner if they spank me and call me dirty words.”

“I wear my wife’s thong when I masturbate.”

“I get hard when women call me Daddy.”

These are all statements I’ve heard, and the question that inevitably follows them is always the same: “Am I WEIRD?!?”

Read my article to find out why you are actually fantastic.  To read it on StyleCaster, click here.
